Has anyone made Unique Factories work continuously? The latter point is exactly what I've been saying all along! So are we finally clear on the subject that unique goods can't be imported? Shops can only import regular goods.
All things considered, this whole debate started with the notion of storing unique goods, which to me still seems pointless. They can be sold locally or exported for cash. Either way you make a profit, so storing them serves no purpose.

Commercial will import regular goods from outside if there are no regular goods available from zoneable industry or unique goods available from "DLC industries" If you have a warehouse of unique goods then commercial will use those if there are none coming direct from factories.
Warehouses act as a buffer to reduce the import by commercial of regular goods. Agree x 1. No, logistically that doesn't make sense. Filling a warehouse with unique goods takes time. During that time, shops will make requests for goods preferably unique, but regular otherwise and will import them from outside if necessary. So instead of stockpiling unique goods and wasting time, you could have delivered them right away or export them at a profit. So as I said, storing unique goods serves no purpose.

If you have them in a warehouse they will use them rather than import. This discussion has run it's course. If there's no local demand they will either use storage or export. I guess I can't make you understand. Unique goods are valuable, but only if they can be sold. Whether sold locally or exported for cash, there really is no point to keeping them in reserve. If you can't see that, you just can't grasp the supply chain. Warehouses won't empty when commanded, and the order for materials is problematic. The shipyard is always shutting down with local warehoused supplies literally right next door.

I think it's helpful to think of storage facilities as providing trucks more than it is about providing actual storage space which they do, but the trucks are really the important part. Just link the highway to your residential, separate factories along with commercial altogether. Provide pedestrian path for you citizens to walk over to the other side.
